The Taurus Bridge at La Ferrière-Harang

Starting from Caumont-l’Eventé, the « Bluecoat » operation was launched on July 30. The objective is to break through the enemy’s front to free the Bocage Virois. The mission is entrusted to the 2nd British Army of General Miles Dempsey.

The 2nd Household Cavalry Regiment, a reconnaissance unit of the 11th Armored Division, seized this bridge over the Souleuvre on 31 July, which the Germans did not destroy. He then avoids long detours and leads to the German rear. The next day, August 1, the commune of Bény Bocage is liberated.

This bridge located on the RD 56 is nicknamed since the « Bridge of the Bull », reference to the emblem of the 11th British Armored Division.
